MotorCity Casino & Hotel — Detroit, MI

MiG construction delivered the future of urban casinos when selected as the general contractor and construction managers for the nearly $300 million MotorCity Casino, Hotel and Convention Center project in Detroit. Working around the existing temporary casino operations, MiG executed the architectural vision for a spectacular glass, brick and steel venue build around the Wagner “Wonder Bread” Factory, originally built in 1915.

As the lead construction firm on this world-class facility, MiG drove the redevelopment of the casino building, including all interior, exterior and tenant construction, as well as the ground-up construction of the 400-room hotel. The variety of construction techniques, finishes and materials used to create a cutting-edge casino blended into one of the city’s flagship factories took impeccable skill, outstanding trades and a team approach to bring this vision to life.

Iridescence Restaurant – Detroit, MI

Iridescence is a AAA Four-Diamond restaurant—one of only a few in Michigan—seating 134. MiG created the space with a 30-foot-high ceiling and 150 decorative hanging fixtures. The automated wine rack is temperature controlled and has a computer interface for picking wine. We used an automotive conveyor supplier to develop this one-of-a-kind system.

House of Pure Vin – Detroit, MI

MiG Construction worked on this signature retail wine shop located in the heart of downtown Detroit, the ideal place for picking up the perfect wine pairing for any gathering or event. Towering racks hold hundreds of bottles, with a display shelf at eye level for easy viewing and selection.

Chili’s Grill & Bar – Romulus, MI

Located in the McNamara terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, MiG Construction worked on the new Chili’s restaurant, a comfortable sit-down dining experience in the terminal. Track lighting and overhead lamps provide a relaxed atmosphere for a fast-casual meal.

Flight Bar, Luxor
– Las Vegas, NV

A 4,000-square-foot new bar concept, Flight is about 300% larger than the existing Nile Bar, the small lounge it replaced. In addition to the necessary interior construction, MiG installed a number of the design element furnishings, including custom-made blackjack tables with bench seating and acrylic mathematic equation artwork. Overhead, the bar features tiered zebra wood ceiling panels, which required unique engineering techniques.

Criss Angel Theatre
– Las Vegas, NV

MiG created a dream-like Gothic Victorian theme for the theater lobby to correspond with the Criss Angel Believe Show. The Gothic Victorian theme was achieved by using dark red and grey paint throughout, fiber-optic dangling chandeliers, and baroque gold frames around the amazing lenticular panels and metal detectors. The box office and retail area feature a clean, modern design utilizing metallic colors, including metal panel flooring and metal baffled ceiling.

Dale Chihuly Gallery – Las Vegas, NV

The 4,351-square-foot glass-art inspired gallery is located in the base of the Mandarin Tower in Las Vegas CityCenter. MiG worked with owner Dale Chihuly to meet budget constraints while keeping the amazing architectural features and design. The gallery features a 700-lb. floating glass sculpture at the entrance and various fluid and organic chandeliers throughout the space. The space is open and airy with high ceilings, leaving one to focus solely on the amazing art.

Eastern Market Dining Experience – Romulus, MI

As part of the concessions program at McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, MiG Construction worked on this “gate holdroom” themed on Detroit’s historic Eastern Market. Paying homage to the Shed 5 project, the location offers a communal dining area and lounge, helping travelers get a taste of both Michigan and Detroit at the end of Concourse A.

DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital – Commerce Twp., MI

This project consists of architectural, mechanical and electrical demolition of the second floor of the Garden Building and the build-out of 21 private patient rooms with bariatric lift systems, two nurse stations and multiple private office spaces to be completed on an eight-month schedule. Project delivery was construction management, and we teamed with Auch Construction.

The project also required below-floor MEP rerouting above a fully operational OB Center. The phasing plan was developed in coordination with the nursing staff into six separate phases, thus minimizing the impact to patient care for the above ceiling work.

United Way Torch Project – Detroit, MI

Supporting the goals of the United Way, MiG Construction contributed to the refurbishing of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s torch sculpture. A diverse group of organizations reskinned the base of the abstract sculpture and converted it to an electrically lit wire to remain permanently lit. As part of an energy-saving project, the conversion honors the past while embracing the future of green technology.

Julian Serrano – Las Vegas, NV

Chef Julian Serrano’s vision for his signature restaurant was brought to life as part of an exciting CityCenter project in ARIA Resort & Casino. This 220-seat bar and restaurant serves up Serrano’s classic Spanish tapas. A notable feature in its construction included the installation of a beautifully detailed mosaic tile floor, with walls shipped in from Italy. This project merited Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

DPS Adult Ed — Detroit, MI

This project consisted of repurposing the existing two-story, 45,300-square-foot elementary school as an adult education center. It entailed a full changeover from steam heat to a forced air heating and cooling system. The classrooms and restrooms were converted to be suitable for adults, and an elevator was added to address accessibility issues. The existing auditorium was converted to a new lobby and student lounge; the gymnasium was converted into formal testing labs. Special classrooms were created for state programs including GED prep, GED fulfillment and various retraining programs. Technology was added to classrooms including WiFi, Smartboards and digital projectors.

DMC Children’s Hospital — Detroit, MI

This project consists of renovation of four floors of the Carls Building including clinical, office and exam rooms. Project delivery was construction management, and we teamed with Auch Construction. This project was multiphase and included multiple moves of departments to maintain operations.

DPS Mackenzie — Detroit, MI

The Mackenzie PK-8 project is the design and construction of a new 110,000-square-foot elementary and middle school, with partner Auch Construction. The project utilized the design/build project delivery method. Early coordination between our team, the architect and major trade contractors was required to meet the aggressive schedule and competitive budget. The building consists of two academic educational wings. One wing is for the middle school students, and the other wing is for the prekindergarten and elementary school students. All classrooms are wired for today’s teaching equipment and technologies, as well as for the future. The middle school wing includes state-of-the-art science laboratories and technology classrooms. The overall building is designed with bold colors in common spaces to excite and stimulate the minds of children, using lots of natural lighting. The building envelope and infrastructure was designed and constructed to meet the stringent energy efficiency standards required to achieve a LEED® Silver rating.

DPS Central High — Detroit, MI

MiG Construction served as construction manager for the addition and renovation of the historic school, playing a key role in the preconstruction and construction phase. This project included a 55,000-square-foot addition to the existing school and 160,000 square feet of full interior renovation, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art media center, gymnasium, swimming pool, library, completely renovated classrooms and a music center. Exterior renovation included new landscaping, football field and field house.

LoVasco Group — Detroit, MI

This 8,000-square-foot tenant improvement project for LoVasco Group, located at One Woodward Ave., included creating a modern, open office with glass wall conference rooms, LED lighting and a break room for employees. A new ceiling, fresh paint and an information technology infrastructure were a part of the renovation.

Heritage Vision Plans — Detroit, MI

Heritage Vision Plans (HVP), established in 1991, is an outgrowth of Heritage Optical, which was founded in Detroit in 1975. The company grew from its original optical business with one retail center to a national company, so HVP began building its own brand as a separate company in 2006. This was our first tenant improvement project in the 430-foot, 32-story skyscraper that sits at One Woodward Ave.

The renovation included all new mechanical and electrical systems, along with rebuilding the entire roof structure and alley side brick façade, incorporating “Juliet” decks.
